Follow these steps and allow yourself to fall into a deep meditative state that will reveal a closer connection to the present and help calm you when you’re upset.
1. Breathe. Focusing on your breathing is an essential practice that draws your awareness inward and helps you experience the presence and flow of energy.
2. Relax. The more you relax, the more you deepen awareness of sensation.
3. Feel. Let your sense of feeling move beyond physical sensation. Acknowledge who you are as a being of energy.
4. Watch. Sense who you are as a witness; be a scientist observing phenomena arising in and around you.
5. Allow. Sense who you are with no preferences. Be present to the process of your life unfolding moment by moment.

Michigan Heart & Vascular Institute at Saint Joseph Mercy Health System Believes:
“These days everyone’s schedule is busier than ever before. Hurry here, hurry there, and add in a large dose of stress, unhealthy eating habits and a lack of sleep. The results are not pretty, but it is reality. More people are leading unhealthy lives, and if they are not careful, they could end up with high blood pressure, heart disease, and weight gain that could lead to obesity.
But it is never too late to change your lifestyle, eating habits, get control of the stress in your life, and learn how to feel more relaxed. The secret that many people have already discovered lies in one word: yoga.
Yoga is not difficult to learn, and allows people to be more active individuals by improving their overall fitness and state of mind. It is easy to get caught up in the hectic pace of today’s world, but yoga offers an opportunity to regenerate and rejuvenate.
Physicians and scientists are discovering brand new health benefits of yoga everyday. Studies show it can relieve the symptoms of several common and potentially life-threatening illnesses such as arthritis, arteriosclerosis, chronic fatigue, diabetes, AIDS, asthma and obesity.
Although yoga can trace its origins to India, it is for everyone. People from all walks of life have discovered the health benefits of yoga, and are making it a part of their daily routine. Athletes like Kareem Abdul-Jabar, and celebrities like Madonna and Sting use yoga to stay in shape and to give them the confidence to do what they enjoy doing.
Yoga helps to make you aware that you are part of a larger whole, not merely an island unto yourself. Once your mind and body are in sync, you will feel better and have more energy. Yoga has been around for 5,000 years or more, and includes physical exercises that look like gymnastics. These exercises help you become or stay fit and trim, control your weight, and reduce your stress level. Yoga also offers a whole range of meditation practices, including breathing techniques that exercise your lungs, calm your nervous system, and charge your brain and the rest of your body with energy.
Georg Feurstein, the co-author of Yoga for Dummies, writes in his book “athletes understand that the secret of yoga lies in control of the mind, be it through postures, breathing, or meditation.” When the British women’s ski team participated in the Winter Olympics in the early 70s, Feurstein was called in to teach yoga exercises to everyone.
In addition to athletes, dancers, weight lifters, body sculptors, and other active individuals who incorporate yoga techniques into their activities have discovered that the health benefits of yoga go beyond the effects of simple muscle stretching. They feel better, have more stamina, and are able to accomplish more.
Yoga gives you the power to do what you want to do, while at the same time, offers these health benefits”

Rope Yoga, also called RussaYog, is an exceptional form of exercise that unites mind, body and spirit. It is a blending of traditional yoga practice with and without a rope, depending on the asan or posture.
I opened my studio in Nickels Arcade in June of 2008, where I hold sessions with clients on a one-on-one basis or in pairs. My sessions are kept small and private, due to the fact that I want my clients to receive my exclusive attention while honoring this time they have chosen to spend with themselves.
The studio is a place of peace and a place where my clients and I come to, to focus on our inner and outer bodies. Our goal is not only to strengthen and tone our bodies, but also, and more importantly, to let the mind relax into a calm alertness, allowing it to release tension that we may not be aware of.
At the studio, the focus is on the body and the mind working as a team, one not overriding, or dominating the other. We search for this balance, and we create it when we practice Rope Yoga.
I hope you will visit this site often, as I will be publishing more information regarding prices, one-on-one private sessions for autumn 2008, and releasing new marketing material!
