An article in the May 27th edition of the New York Times (Science Times), has a wonderful and insightful article on Mindful Meditation. It is said to be rooted in the teaching of Siddhartha Gautama of the 5th century B.C. Basic concepts are:
- Being present through oberserving your breath
- Acknowledging your inhales (energy being brought into your body) and exhales (energy being released out to the world)
- Observing your feelings and sensations
- Being less reactionary to life experiences
- Not judging your thoughts, and letting them pass through your mind like clouds, floating by
- Settling into a rhythm of breathing, and not losing focus
- Relaxing
- And that We are not defined by the content of our thoughts.
